Are you the Barbecue Queen or the King of the Coals? If so, Amazing Grace Women’s Home wants you for their barbecue benefit!
Founder Cassie Corgey says Amazing Grace Women’s Home will be the first house of its kind in our area, a free drug and alcohol treatment center for women in our community with a 12-step program. Corgey says that right now, they are in process of raising funds to purchase a home.
The Amazing Grace Women’s Home’s second annual barbecue competition fundraiser is from noon to 5p.m. Sunday, July 8, at the Kurten Community Center, but the deadline to sign up in the barbecue cook-off is Tuesday, July 3rd. Besides the competition, there will be a cake walk, face-painting supplied by local tattoo artists, a slip-n-slide water slide, and more.
Corgey says the Kurten Community Center is very big, and barbecue competitors can come the night before, have access to air-conditioning, showers, and restrooms. Sausage, brisket, and pork loins will be provided to the participants, and the entry fee is $100, all of which is completely tax-deductable. Corgey says it’s a 50/50 cash prize for the best brisket, so the more people that sign up, the more money they can win.
