Join Voices for Children, CASA of Brazos Valley for an evening at Mad Hatter’s Tea Room in Caldwell. It will be a casual come-and-go event from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM with a brief presentation at 5:30 PM by Kate Mason, Voices for Children’s Recruitment and Training Manager.
The event, Coffee with CASA, will inform attendees about Voices for Children and specifically how the program serves their community. Right now, Voices for Children is in need of more volunteers from Burleson County. The program serves 33 foster kids in Burleson County but only has 3 volunteers from the region.
Owner of Mad Hatter’s Tea Room, Jeanie Price, said, “This is a cause near and dear to my heart and I know there are never enough volunteers.” Jeanie has been a long-time supporter of Voices for Children and was happy to offer Mad Hatter’s as the venue for the event. She will be generously donating her establishment along with coffee and refreshments in support of Voices for Children’s intent to recruit more volunteers.
Coffee with CASA wants to stress the effect a volunteer from Burleson County has on an abused or neglected child in their community in hopes of solving the shortage of volunteers from the area. Volunteers for Voices for Children can make an immediate and lasting impact on a child by giving them a voice at a critical turning point in their life.
The last CASA volunteer training for 2017 will start September 9th. For those that are interested in learning more about CASA and want to help but can’t make the event, visit vfcbrazos.org/volunteer.
Voices for Children, CASA of Brazos Valley is a nonprofit program that recruits and trains volunteers (Court Appointed Special Advocates or CASAs) in the community to advocate for children that have been removed from their home and/or are in the foster care system. Voices for Children serves over 180 children in the Grimes, Burleson, and Brazos counties.
Mending Hearts: A place where hurting hearts are mended
To cultivate healing for grieving youth, their families, and the community through peer support group programs, training, education, and outreach.
Children and Grief
Grief is a term often used to describe the wide range of emotional and physical reactions that arise when someone has experienced the death of a loved one, or is living in anticipation of a death. Grief feelings may include shock, sadness, anger, denial, and loss of control. An array of physical reactions may also be present, such as loss of appetite, memory, sleeplessness, and lack of concentration. At the Center we believe that each person’s journey through grief is unique and therefore deserving of a distinctive approach to healing. We help children and their caregivers understand the depth of their grief, stabilize and preserve family relationships, and cope with the loss of their loved one.
Our peer support group programs bring together children, teens, and their caregivers with similar loss experiences to help normalize feelings, share experiences, and grieve the death of a loved one. Peer support group programs are open-ended and are offered at no cost to families. Each group meets twice a month in a safe, nurturing environment conducive to healing. Children who attend groups engage in therapeutic activities such as: play therapy, narrative therapy, art, poetry, journaling, music, meditation, dance/movement, and recreational activities, all of which help process their feelings of grief.
Prior to enrolling in a peer support group program, families attend an individual intake interview, at no cost to the family. To schedule an individual intake interview, please call 979-690-4673, ask for Kay.
