The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History proudly announces the addition of a full-size cast of a Triceratops horridus skull to the Frithiof Fossil Collection.
Visitors will recognize Triceratops from its recent appearance in the popular movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The film features Triceratops in several important scenes, and a magnificent Triceratops skull plays an integral role in the conclusion of the movie.
These plant-eating dinosaurs had a narrow beak and shearing teeth to eat rough palm fronds and other fibrous plants. An adult Triceratops grew up to 30 feet in length and weighed over 11,000 pounds (the average sedan weighs about 3,000 pounds).
One of the most well-known dinosaurs, the Triceratops is easily recognized by its three horns and large neck frill. Remains of Triceratops have only been found in parts of the United States and Canada. The Museum’s specimen is cast from a skull found in the Hell Creek Formation, Montana.
