Peace family, do you need a good reminder that growth is often messy? I did. Things have felt pretty messy in my life lately, but it occurred to me this morning that even good changes can sometimes be frustrating and messy at first.
When my old oven broke back in October, I was very disappointed to learn that there would no longer be enough room for a microwave above the place where a new oven would go (my house is more than thirty years old, so it was built for the smaller ovens of decades past). In fact, my microwave would either have to go on the counter top, where it looks very big, somewhat ugly, and causes problems by overloading the circuit, or, I would have to do a redneck trick that I learned from my grandmother and keep the microwave inside of the pantry.
I know all of this can sound pretty stupid to someone who doesn’t care about aesthetics or ease of kitchen work, but to me, this was a pretty big, breaker-flipping, extension-cord-needing deal, and it has been pretty frustrating for me. As they installed the oven this morning, though, which was a messy process, it reminded me that sometimes even good changes can be pretty frustrating at the beginning, but God pulls us through and helps us to adjust. It also got me thinking about how other frustrations in my life might not necessarily be obstacles, but instead, opportunities for growth, development, and positive change.
Peace family, if things are feeling pretty difficult for you right now, I want to encourage you that development, growth, and good things might be coming, so don’t lose heart and don’t give up. We can trust God that he won’t abandon us, and will help us, even when growth is frustrating or painful.
