Knowing What to Do

Peace family, do you ever have trouble staying focused on the task for each day?

As a detail-focused “do-er” type personality, I can often become bogged down in details, have “urgent” needs come up that derail me from my goals, or have my energy sapped by procrastination in the present, worries about the future, or lack of sleep and unresolved issues from the day (or days) before.

Recently, I’ve been reading a book that has helped me to streamline my extensive to-do lists into items that are categorized by importance. It does take a little time to decide how to prioritize my goals each day, but it is really helping me to spend my time more efficiently, finish tasks, and keep my long-term goals in mind.

On the spiritual side of things, I also recently heard a great reminder from the pastor at my parents’ church to begin each day by taking time to ask God what He wants me to do today, and ending each day by thanking Him. Dedicate your day to him, and ask each morning what He wants. Sometimes it’s a goal or an action, and sometimes it’s just something simple like, “have kindness,” or “stay focused.” After all, all of the time in each of our lives is actually His time! Shouldn’t we take time to consult Him about how to spend it?

Peace family, it’s been such an encouragement to try to make my days centered around God, but also to take time to think about what else is important, and do it. Take some time today and give it a try! You never know how much help it might be.
