GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Cory Asbury has penned a poignant song as an early gift for Father’s Day that releases today, “Dream I Never Had.” The song follows a father and son talking about dreams of the future, such as becoming a professional athlete, an astronaut, or even the President, only to realize that perhaps the greatest dream of all might be one the boy never had – fatherhood. Listen to “Dream I Never Had,” now. The spark for this song originally came from the title of the final episode of the TV series Friday Night Lights. The finale’s title was “Watching a Dream Come True,” and Asbury thought of the twist on words with “Watching a Dream I Never Had Come True.”
“When little boys are growing up, their daydreams aren’t filled with babies and raising families,” shares Cory Asbury. “No, they’re dreaming about playing baseball, becoming an astronaut, a firefighter, or something cool like that. Then, as they get older, meet a good woman, and settle down a little bit, they find themselves living a dream they never had as little kids. And to their surprise, it’s more glorious and fulfilling than any major league home run could ever be.”
