Hi Peace Family! Jami Mayberry here. Something unique to the Bryan/College Station area happened last night and I am sure you have experienced this too if you have lived here for any amount of time. If you were anywhere near the Kroger on Texas Ave. between 7 and 8 pm you heard loud booms that were startling. I was loading groceries into my car and jump and screamed from what I thought sounded like a gunshot. Nope…just a company that was hired by Kroger to get rid of the birds that roost in their parking lot every evening. I had never seen that technique but it made perfect sense. They were firing blanks or some kind of fire crackers to keep the birds from roosting at dusk. It worked! The birds flew in every direction! Who knows where they ended up roosting last night but it WASN’T in the Kroger parking lot on Texas Avenue! Patrick Zeinert, our newsman, called it “grackle abatement”. Have you ever seen the Alfred Hitchcock movie “The Birds”? There are times some parking lots and electrical wires at intersections look like scenes right out of that movie. Almost an eerie sight and sound.
So if you hear loud booms around town it’s not gun fire and nothing to be alarmed about. It’s just Kroger getting rid of the birds in their parking lots. Oh, if only other things that irritate us in our lives were that easy to get rid of! But God can use those things to smooth off the rough edges of our personalities and lives to make us more like Him. I wish there were an easier way to help us grow but He can use anything as a tool. Even hundreds of crows all over town. Welcome to Aggieland!
