Peace family, what are you thankful for? Today, I am thankful for the rain, for good friends, for my family, for Peace 107, for the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream I’m eating out of the office freezer… the possibilities are endless!
A friend recently challenged me by asking, “What would you have tomorrow, if you woke up with only the things that you took time to thank God for today?” If you’re happy today, full of joy and contentment, how easy it should be to write a list of things you can be thankful for! But if your heart is heavy today with concerns, pains, or conflicts, why not just give yourself a short break to think about God’s goodness, and the good things that you have in your life?
I was feeling very heavily burdened on Saturday, writing in my journal about some areas in my life that need breakthrough and healing, when I realized, “Hey! God, you already know the pains, frustrations, and needs of my heart. You love me and I know they matter to you. Is it okay if I just take a short break? I know you won’t forget my problems while I do. What if I just focus only on what I’m thankful for, for a little while at least?”
I listed everything as it came to my head, even silly things, and it was so sweet to focus on every small place of joy. More and more things came up that I love about being alive. Nothing changed about my problems, but how refreshing it was, to even the score and think about what and Who is lovely, true, and worthy of praise.
Anyway, just a few thoughts from your friendly, neighborhood Kat.
