Peace family, no matter how hard anything else is in our lives, there are always small, beautiful things to look out for and celebrate!
This week, after a year of waiting, my neighbor Cynthia and I celebrated the ripening of a peach on her peach tree. Now, this is a very special peach tree. It has the best peaches I’ve ever tasted. The peaches are light-colored, with a hint of blush, and the extremely soft, almost ice cream-like flesh has the perfect balance of sweet and tart.
Ever since last summer, I’ve been thinking about the wonderful peaches on Cynthia’s tree, and looking forward to them. Unfortunately, with the spring we had that went back and forth between cold and warm weather several times, in the seasonal confusion, the tree ended up making only one single peach this year. However, Cynthia protected it, and once it was ripe, invited me over to enjoy it with her. I baked a coconut cream pound cake, she cut the peach in half, and we celebrated, eating it as slowly as possible! It was just as delicious as I remember, and I am really looking forward to more peaches next year!
I know that sounds like a lot of pomp for a simple peach, but peace family, it was one of the highlights of my year so far! I know God enjoys it when we thank him and enjoy the simple things he has made. Not only that, but it feels good to celebrate! Philippians 4:9 says, “ Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” I think that focusing on the good makes a world of difference, especially when we might be having a hard time in other areas of our lives!
