Peace family, we recently discussed an article on the air that talked about how clutter and feeling depressed can feed off of one another. We want to encourage and uplift you, so we thought we’d search out some practical tips for getting a little more organized and bringing more peace to our surroundings!
We decided to check in with Kat’s friend, Holly Southerland, who is a professional home and business organizer for some tips!
We had to keep things a little short for the radio, but you can find a whole, very encouraging article that she wrote by clicking here, “Depression and Clutter.” You can find her main website at Waco Home Organizers.
It can feel overwhelming once you decide to clean the clutter out, but give yourself some grace. First of all, pick one category at a time to work on. When you have all of your clothes or all of your books in one room, it helps you to see what all you have, so that you can toss the extras.
Secondly, one way to escape the blues is to make a haven for yourself to thrive. This is especially important if you are an introvert or very creative. That would include throwing out the stuff that doesn’t make you happy to look at.
Finally, think about what is current for you. One big hang-up for people who are trying to declutter, is saying, “But I’m going to use this some day!” Let go of old, half-finished projects and supplies for stuff that you’re not realistically going to do, and just keep asking yourself, “Is this current?” If it’s not, then let it go.
