Peace family, we want your 2015 to be a wonderful year, and something that can really help is the quality of peacefulness and organization in your home.
Holly Southerland is a professional organizer with all kinds of great tips to simplify your life and get your home looking and functioning in its best way (and Peace 107’s Kat, who has lived with her as a roommate, can personally attest to her skills).
First of all, Holly says to pull out a garbage bag and a donation box, and get rid of anything that’s clutter. Start with anything that doesn’t make you happy to look at, and things that you don’t use on a regular basis. She says it’s nearly impossible to stay organized when every shelf or drawer is packed to the brim, and clearing up space allows your household room to grow.
Once you have de-cluttered, give everything its own “home.” Put like with like, and at the end of each day, do a quick run through and put everything back in its home; you can even play some upbeat music and do it with your kids like a game. Holly says it’s much easier to tackle that sort of thing in small chunks instead of letting it build up, and you’ll feel more peaceful when you can do it bit by bit.
Third, don’t be afraid to ask for help. You can invite a professional organizer into your home for an afternoon to give you a fresh set of eyes, or call in a friend for moral support. It’s really helpful to have a friend come and help you, for example, clean out a closet together, then return the favor at her house. Don’t forget to celebrate when you’re finished!
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, just get started! Holly says to start small with something like your kitchen junk drawer, and let the momentum build in order to take on bigger projects. Make a date on your calendar and show up to slay your dragon! Holly says to just start purging and moving things around, and you’ll be amazed at what you can get accomplished when you just get going!
