When was the last time you did something that scared you and you had to push yourself to do it? Hi Peace Family it’s Jami and recently a friend from childhood invited me to go with her to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and stay at her condo, expenses paid. She has a time-share and invited me along. My first reaction was to say no. I’m still not 100% physically recovered since my cancer treatments and I have put on some weight and don’t feel good about that, especially in a bathing suit. But then I decided to ask some friends their advice and opinions. Maybe I was being short-sighted.
A cancer friend told me that I would never again feel 100% and I should go while I feel good enough to travel. What wisdom. If we all waited until everything was perfect to travel and do things out of our comfort zones, we would never leave the house! Another friend reminded me that she weighs more than I do and she just got back from a cruise to the Bahamas where she swam with dolphins and even para-sailed! She said she wouldn’t let anything stop her from that once-in-a-lifetime experience. It reminded me of the photos she sent me of a dolphin ‘kissing’ her cheek. She had the biggest, joyous, giddy smile on her face.
I decided right then, she was right. I wanted some of that. Giddy joy. And, come to think of it, I did just renew my passport. And who cares how much I weigh? It doesn’t matter. I fought so hard and went through so much to face cancer and fight for my life. Now I am probably as good as I’m going to get health-wise. I am back on the air full time, doing what I truly feel God has called me to do: Christian radio. Spending afternoons with you, Peace Family, is the most satisfying part of my life. You give me so much. And your prayers have meant so much.
So, here I go! I have never been to Mexico and don’t know what to pack or what to wear. It’s all an unknown at this point. But I am going to do some research and find out as much as I can. And I am still amazed at the kindness and generosity of my friend to invite me. She grew up down the street and we used to ride bikes and play together from the age of 6 through jr. high. We have lots of stories and memories to laugh about and a chance to make some new ones now that we are…ahem…of a certain age. 🙂 How could I say no?
I want to encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and if God has put an opportunity in front of you, whether travel, a job, a relationship or something else DO IT! Don’t let fear of the unknown or insecurities hold you back. This is a wonderful life and you are meant to live it to the fullest. Dare to say yes!!
