Peace Family, when was the last time you took a driving test? When you were 16? Or maybe moving to another state, or maybe because your license expired…I have always been super responsible about legal things. When I moved back home to Texas from Tennessee I knew I would need to get my license changed. I changed my tags and it felt great to have Texas tags again. My Drivers License had just been renewed in Tennessee and I put off changing it.
You see, 3 months after moving here I was diagnosed with cancer. A rare and aggressive kind that demanded my full attention. It was Stage III. I had surgery and started treatment and to be quite honest, I didn’t know how long I was going to live. So since my Tennessee license was valid I just put that at the end of my list of things to do. You know, behind survive and endure cancer treatment.
To make a long story short, my license expired and I had no idea. I went to a doctor’s appointment and they asked to see my ID and insurance card. That is when I found out it had expired…oh no I had forgotten all about it! So I contacted the local DMV and found out I would now have to take the written test AND driving test again to get my Texas license. I had no idea! I hadn’t taken either test since I was 16 years old! I have continuously been licensed wherever I lived and worked…California, Tennessee and Texas. No test required. Just a new photo. So for the last few days I have been studying the drivers handbook and I am happy to say on Monday I took and passed my written test!
My next challenge will be the driving test. They scheduled me and now I wait. Isn’t it funny how life takes twists and turns? Some we don’t see coming and others we cause ourselves. I take full responsibility for the situation I am in. It’s my own fault. Believe me, I never dreamed I’d be taking a drivers test at this age (over 45). But God can cover any situation you find yourself in with grace and give you the strength and patience to endure it. Whatever it might be.
What are you dealing with right now that you never dreamed you would have to deal with? Nothing in life goes exactly as we plan and there are always situations we just as soon not be a part of. But that’s part of life. Everyday life. And no one escapes it. The best we can do is try and be flexible and find something positive or funny about the situation. It helps so much and that’s what I encourage you to do today. You can get through any challenge that jumps up in your path. Your Bible is the perfect thing to help you do just that. And there is always uplifting and encouraging music too! 🙂
We love you Peace Family!
