I have lived many places, Peace Family. They have all been unique in their own way and had special things about them. But to me, nothing is like Texas. It is home and I dreamed of moving back here since I left at 21 years old. While grocery shopping a few days ago I found some cactus leaves in the produce section. How cool is that? Well, to me it is!
In many of the places I’ve lived you would never see cactus for sale at the grocery store. Never. It just culturally is not a part of many parts of the country, or world for that matter. But we have an abundance of cactus in Texas and the Southwest part of the US and many people cook with them and use parts of them every day. So I had to take a picture of them for sale at Kroger And share it.
I shared it on my Facebook page and a FB friend asked me what to do with them…do you eat them? Ha Ha That was funny to me. So I found a link to a website that had over 1000 recipes that used cactus. Everything from salsa to smoothies. I sent it to her and she was amazed. Isn’t that funny…something we think nothing of because it’s so common here in south Texas is very unique and unusual to others.
It made me realize that just like that cactus, we each are unique and just the way God made us. There might be people that have never met anyone like you before and you know what? That’s okay. I think being unique is just fine. If we all were exactly alike it would be boring. And who wants a boring life? Not me or you! I want to meet interesting, unique people and have interesting conversations. Different doesn’t mean bad, it just means different.
So if you are a cactus from Brazos Valley then be that! It’s a remarkable, good thing and God can use you in any situation. You have great value, Peace Family.
