Peace family, one of the most wonderful things for me this week, was an opportunity to Skype a dear friend of mine who lives in Bolivia, where she works in a ministry with children. We haven’t hung out in person since I lived in England, but it was so good to hear her lovely Welsh accent, see her face, and hear what’s going on in her life, that it made me weep.
Even continents apart, she and I have been going through some very similar experiences and heartaches. We listened to each other, we prayed, and we shared biblical truths with one another. Also exciting, a shop here in town has her (and my) favorite brand of English tea (Yorkshire), so, despite her living in a country without proper English tea, I have the privilege of buying several boxes and sending them to her in the mail.
Peace family, do you have any friends like that, whom you can pick up with right back where you left off, even after time has passed? Are you a friend like that to others? Who can you reach back out to today, someone who encourages you, whom you also can encourage?
If no one comes to mind, don’t despair. There’s no better time than the present to start building a beautiful friendship. Look around you! Whom can you listen to today? What opportunities do you have to be kind and honest? Take some time out of your day and share it with a kindred soul. Ten years down the line, they might make for a very special source of mutual encouragement!
