Peace family, today, I just want to encourage you that healing doesn’t always look how we, or others, think it should. Sometimes, healing triggers fear, and some kinds of healing cause pain as we let God work through it in our hearts. It also doesn’t happen in the timeline that we expect. However, God is still sovereign and in control.
What got me thinking about this is Mark 5:1-20. Jesus casts out a legion of demons that have been possessing a man, sends them into a herd of pigs, and the pigs stampede off of a cliff and drown. Despite the fact that a demoniac being healed, dressed, and sitting in his right mind is a great miracle, the people of the area are so afraid that they ask Jesus to leave (see Mark 5:15).
Peace family, people will not always understand as we receive healing, or others receive God’s healing through us. They might be uncomfortable, especially if they suffer from similar damage. Sometimes we ourselves might become afraid; we are so used to something dysfunctional, that the new hope and health we have in Christ feels uncomfortable and unpredictable. We keep going back to the broken patterns that used to help us cope, or even abuse that we are accustomed do.
Peace family, our healing and others’ healing is worth it! We are new creations. The old has gone, the new is come, and we don’t have to embrace our old, sinful patterns any more (see II Corinthians 5:17). Instead, we can embrace the grace, love, and wholeness that Christ has for us. The world does not understand Christ, and they do not always understand the changes that he makes in us, but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t been changed for the better! Embrace your fearsome wholeness in Him, today!
