Peace Family, was there ever a time in your life that you found treasure? How full of excitement and delight were you?
As a kid who loved adventure stories and mysteries, I was always extremely interested in the prospect of finding hidden treasure chests. Whether at the beach or in the forest, I always hoped to find buried gold! In fact, when I was in second grade, for my best friend’s birthday, I took a box of Tide, emptied the soap into a Tupperware, wrapped the box with aluminum foil, filled it with candies and trinkets, buried it in a sand lot near our houses, and drew a treasure map for him. When he finally dug it up, I might have been more excited than he was!
Peace family, I still get a similar excited feeling every once in a while, such as when I find exactly what I wanted on sale, or a particularly special book, or something lost that I’ve been looking for. There are so many things to treasure! I think the love that I have for discovering “treasure,” is one of the reasons that I especially enjoyed stumbling upon a specific Bible verse yesterday, Psalm 119:162 (ESV), which says, “I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil.” Peace family, do we regularly rejoice in God’s word like someone who has found treasure? I know I don’t, but the Bible really is a treasure! I liked this verse so much, that I decided to memorize it.
The next time you open your Bible, try to think of it as the treasure chest that it is! God’s promises are better than gold. Let his goodness and value inspire delight and excitement in your heart!
