Peace family, do you need some encouragement for your faith?
I’ve been reading the book of Acts in my quiet times, and was really struck by the actions of sailors who were in a shipwreck with the apostle Paul (chapter 27). After not following Paul’s advice of where to sail, which resulted in days of desperate actions fighting a storm, when the sailors put down a life boat, Paul told them that only those who stayed with the ship would survive. At his word, the sailors cut off and released the life boats, cutting off their most logical hopes for survival. They stayed with the ship and did end up surviving, just as Paul said, though they were shipwrecked on an island for a while.
It inspired me to think about how much faith and trust the sailors would have had to have in order to give up their lifeboats! It also challenged me to think about the areas of my life and my self that I am inclined to trust in, when I should be trusting God.
Peace family, what are the “lifeboats” in your life, that wants you to release? Are they your education, your finances, your relationships? Your looks, your talents, your personality? Where do you find your security? Let’s submit those things to Him today, or at least become aware of the areas that we are trusting something other than God, which is idolatry. He is worth our faith and trust!
