Peace family, if you are a mom, dad, or are functioning as a parent to someone, I just want to encourage you that God is with you! His name has not changed. He is still, “Immanuel,” which means, “God with us!”
For several days, I have felt like someone might need to hear that.
God’s promises are just as true in parenting as they are in your life as an individual. He is still refining you, developing the fruit of the spirit in your life (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control), and oh, how we need him! He is still teaching us to obey him ourselves, to be an example with our lives, and to be people of love, forgiveness, and wisdom.
You are not alone, no matter how alone you might feel. God is faithful to you. He is by your side. He also knows what it is like to be a parent, even a parent of wayward children. As Jesus said about the people of Jerusalem in Luke 13:34, he longed to gather them together like a mother hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but they were not willing. He also had compassion on the people of Israel, seeing that they were like sheep without a shepherd (Matthew 9:36.)
There are all kinds of helpful philosophies, self-help books, and counsel in regards to the best way to raise children, but keeping God first is most important of all. Read and know what his Bible says, pray, and build your accountability team. Spend time sharing and praying with other believers with whom you are safe, who care about your soul, and care about your family growing closer to God. Remember that you are a child of the greatest Parent of all, and he loves you more than you can fathom!
Peace family, Christ promises life to you, and life more abundantly, in him. Trust him. Lean on him. Find rest in him. Be restored in him. Don’t give up. Keep following him.
