Peace family, have you ever seen the Bill Murray movie, Groundhog Day? My family has always been fascinated by the idea of living the same day, over and over. Who hasn’t had a day that they wished they had a chance to do over?
I’ve had several pretty terrible days lately that I wished hadn’t happened the way that they did. Even if I were given them to start all over again, I doubt they would go much better than they did the first time around.
Thankfully, even though we are kept in the moment in which we live, God is not controlled by time. He is not only the Lord of our present circumstances and our futures, but also the Lord over our past. He is all powerful for all time and he isn’t bound by it, because after all, He created the concept of time by making light and darkness and the sun, moon, and seasons. He was present before anything else existed. The Bible also says that God’s days are not like our days, and his years are not like our years (see II Peter 3:8).
Does it comfort you to know that even though we are often slaves to time, God is not? Christ redeems our mistakes and even our worst days. If you are feeling condemned by your past today, take some time to focus on who God is, who he says you are as forgiven and redeemed by Christ, and step forward with a spirit of victory in your heart. If you are fearful for your future, remember Who it is that is never surprised, even by the worst news, and has a good plan for your life. Finally, if you are feeling weary today, as though you are just living the same kind of day over and over, remember that God is with you, working in the present, even in ways that you might not see until later. His Holy Spirit is here to guide you, comfort you, inspire you and refresh you. Take bold steps in obedience to him!
Happy Groundhog Day, from all of us here at Peace 107!
