Peace Family, I hope you are doing well today! But if you aren’t doing well, I just wanted to send you a verbal hug. Without wanting to sound flippant, a friend reminded me last night just how much more God proves his goodness and his character when things fall apart. Last week was extremely stressful for me. Between planned commitments and surprise crises (including my cat going to the ER and staying there for four days), I got pretty worn down.
As rough as things got, there is something so beautiful about God’s constancy in our weakest, most broken places. There are places I have been and sorrows I have felt that no one but God will ever fully understand, and he fully understand yours, too. He treasures you, He knows the aches of your heart, and his truth will preserve you to press on.
As much as I wish I could grow close to God in the good times (and I do, some), it is really the times that I look back at the terrible things I’ve been through, that I see how He has saved me, grown me, changed me, and pulled me closer to himself. I feel like the old hymn I’ve posted at the bottom expresses it well.
Peace Family, I am saying a little prayer right now for you, for anyone feeling alone and overwhelmed. Hang in there.
Anyway, just a few thoughts from your friendly neighborhood Kat.
“Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be.
Great is Thy faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
