Peace family, when was the last time that you really let yourself imagine and dream?
I tend to worry more than I should, but I don’t always take time to think about the positive “what ifs” and things that I can do to make the world around me more beautiful, more encouraging, more fun, and more likely to point others to God. This last weekend, though, a friend of mine invited me to create a character so that a small group of us who all like to write can take turns making up a story together (I know it’s nerdy. Oh well!)
Peace family, I had so much fun! I really enjoyed reading my friends’ character descriptions and seeing their creativity, and I loved coming up with a dramatic back story for my own character, so that we will have a lot of obstacles to work out! I even did some sketching of the characters, which I really haven’t done much of since I was a kid.
Even after we finished hanging out, when I got home, the imagining didn’t stop. Like a primed muscle, suddenly I was able to envision all kinds of fun things: solutions to fixing some broken items in my house, ideas for decorating, and I even cleaned out the solarium which had become filled with dirt and dead plants. The work was greatly lightened by imagining a beautiful evening party in there someday, with the greenhouse stuffed with large, happy, glossy green plants and white Christmas lights tacked to the ceiling!
If you are feeling stifled lately, take some time to play! Turn off the TV, put away your phone, and spend a few hours remembering old dreams and dreaming new ones. Turn on some worship or classical music, and let yourself imagine some fun stories or improvements, even if it feels silly. It really refreshed me, and I think it might refresh you, too! Our God is a creative God, and there’s something very special about it!
