Peace family, it’s that time of year when a lot of colds and viruses are going around! If you are sick, or people you love are sick, this encouragement is for you! I spent the last two weeks with a sore throat, coughing, sneezing, headaches, congestion, and more, and as usual, God had something to teach me through it.
First, if you are sick or someone you love is sick, let me assure you that God will not abandon you! It can be very frustrating when we do all that we can to try to feel better, and nothing seems to be working (including going to the doctor), but at least God knows how you are suffering, and his ears are not deaf to your cries. He knows what’s wrong in your body, he isn’t intimidated by it, and he holds the future in his hands. If you are like me and are always running around without much down time, sometimes being sick forces you to slow down and think through things, which can be a special blessing.
I also was shown a lot of grace and provision through my illness, especially from people I did not expect. Brian was very encouraging to me, even though I felt guilty on the mornings that I just couldn’t come into work, and it really meant a lot to me. Meanwhile, two different friends brought soup for me on two different days, and one of them even took the time to sit with me and let me serve some hot tea, which made me feel like an acceptable human being instead of “unclean” and contagious! Even my mom drove in from out of town with a plate of food one day. And, one day that I felt so bad that I started crying when I woke up, the sweet girl that I mentor had sent me some Bible verses and words of encouragement in a text message, and I had an email from a friend who is a missionary in a foreign country (and had no idea that I was ill), asking me if I was ok and telling me that I had been on her mind in the night, and she had been praying for me.
Although my body and brain felt pretty disoriented and terrible, my heart sure felt special and cared for. (Seriously! I am actually crying real tears onto the studio keyboard as I type this!)
Peace family, if you are someone who is used to caring for others, it can feel pretty weird to have to sit back and let others take care of you, but that’s why God made us a “body” of believers; when one person is weak, another who is strong can be there for us. If you need help or prayer, reach out for others who can reflect God’s love to you. It is a precious treasure. If you are sick today, Peace family, I am praying for you right now, for quick healing! Hang in there. God loves you, and he is with you.
