Peace family, I was watching the movie, Risen, earlier this week, and was particularly moved by thinking about Jesus in the flesh. How often do we think about Christ as our close friend, who loves us better than a brother, and who spends time with us, always?
It’s important to remember the respect that is due him, his glory and his majesty, but we often have trouble remembering that Jesus was a real person. Have you ever imagined what it would be like, if Jesus were to spend the weekend with you? What kinds of things would you do with him this weekend? Would you show him your favorite movie, and really think through whether he would actually enjoy it or not? Would you invite him to wrestle with your kids, or have a family game night in his honor? Would you take him fishing? Or maybe you’d take him to your favorite restaurant and introduce him to your crush, or share a microwave dinner just between you and him, or work on an art project with him, or have him converse with you and inspire you as you tackled organizing the garage together.
Jesus wouldn’t be the kind of friend that just lets us get away with doing and saying wrong things, but he wouldn’t be the kind of friend who condemns and rejects us, either. I think he would bring joy, perspective, creativity, and even healing as he drew you closer to what God loves and values. What’s great is, if you are a believer, then Jesus IS with you this weekend! Let’s remember that he is, and see if that makes any difference in the way that we live, and live abundantly.
