Peace family, how would you live if this year was your last? These next six months? This next day?
Last night as I washed dishes, I thought about how I could live differently if I knew that I would die before my next birthday. Are there things that you feel God has asked you to do that you are putting off? Are there relationships that you need to mend? Are there better ways to spend your time? Are you living in the joy of the Lord, and accepting his strength as your strength? Are you gratefully celebrating the good things?
I’m not saying that we should become overwhelmed with morbidity, but I know that there are better ways I could sometimes be spending my time. There are friendships I have where I have been too afraid to share the gospel in a clear way. There are projects that I’d like to finish. There are people I haven’t managed to fully forgive.
We don’t need to panic about our lives, but Christ says that he has come that we might have life, and have it to the fullest. Let’s find freedom and align our perspectives with his. Let’s step out of our habits of sin and embrace his grace and obedience to him. Let’s do our best to love God with all of our hearts, souls, minds and strength. When he is the focus and purpose of our lives, we will be living to the fullest, no matter how many days we have left, and that’s something to celebrate.
