Peace family, last night, I was able to attend the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ Victory Banquet, and it was such an inspiring time!
A lot of local coaches and kids received awards, and we heard great testimonies from a couple of students, as well as a powerful message about identity from former Dallas Cowboy Chad Hennings. He gave a reminder that we should not find our identities in what we do, but in who we are in Christ, and that we are saved through God’s grace, not our performance. He challenged us, saying that our purpose is to worship God and make his name known, and it’s essential that we surround ourselves with fellow believers that love us, affirm us, and also hold us accountable to stay honest.
To me though, one of the most powerful statements I heard was a reminder of how meaningful your impact is on those whom you lead. We are raising up the next generation, and if you are any kind of coach, trainer, or mentor, sometimes, you are the last chance for that kid to come to know Christ. What a powerful way to think about it!
Growing up, I was pretty nerdy and never very involved in athletics, but the FCA reaches such an important mission field. Kids from all sorts of backgrounds come together, and what they learn and choose in childhood will affect them for the rest of their lives.
