Peace family, how are you changing the world around you at work?
Yesterday, I was thinking about how we often prefer to keep our work and spiritual lives separate. To be fair, it’s vulnerable to expose who we are and our deepest beliefs. I’m not saying to be aggressive with people- the Bible says we should always be able to give others an answer of what we believe with gentleness and respect (I Peter 3:15)- but think about it this way; how can you be God’s best right where you are? Whether you love your job or not, how can you represent Christ right where you are? How can you serve God best with your skills, energy, and service to others?
Work (and if you are a student, that includes school) is one of the only places in our society where people of all kinds interact and are expected to complete tasks in harmony. No one else has your exact sphere of influence, so use it wisely and well. Be kind, honest, and dependable! Be faithful in the little things and exhibit the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Treat your co-workers and customers with love, even if they aren’t being loving or grateful.
Peace family, you don’t have to move abroad to live like a missionary. Even if you’re looking for a job somewhere else, let God use you right where you are during this time in you life. Each day, share your faith with your actions, and be ready to share your faith verbally if it comes up. Focus on God, and learn from your mistakes, but don’t let them determine your life. Let yourself be encouraged by the love that God has for you and pass it on, even if that means reaching out to people at work, or spending time with coworkers outside of work. Who knows what miracles might happen!
