Peace family, what’s the latest new thing you’ve learned? Is there anything you want to learn or try today, but feel afraid?
Several years ago, my Dad gave me a lawn mower and a weed eater, and although I’ve successfully mown my lawn for a few years, I’ve never been able to figure out how to run the weed eater… Until now.
Don’t laugh, but it’s been an intimidating journey! Any time I tried to start it up, I never could, but last night as I mowed the lawn and sang an old camp song to myself, I thought, “I’m an intelligent woman. There’s no reason I can’t learn how to best a machine. Today is the day I am going to conquer that weed eater!” Contrary to several guy friends’ (hopefully joking?) advice, I set the weed eater down in the garage floor, and pulled out the manual and read through it. The process was very awkward and completely unfamiliar, but I obeyed it, step by step. I had no idea what I was doing, but after about twelve pulls of the chord, I got it started! I was so proud! From now on, my lawn will no longer look like a sixth-grade boy did it. I’d say it’s at least seventh-grade quality, now! Ha! (But seriously, it’s quite an accomplishment for me!)
What is intimidating you today, Peace family? Why not give it a try today? Sometimes we have to stop and read the manual, and it’s awkward, and we have no idea what we’re doing, but don’t give up! You can do it! Even if it takes a while, (for me, the weed eater took years) it will be worth it. Here’s to new victories, Peace Family!
