Hi Peace Family! Jami here and when I did radio in Nashville there were 5 years when I saw Billy Block every Monday when he did his radio show called Western Beat. It was on the top country station in Nashville, WSIX-FM back in the 90s. He was one of those people who always had a smile on his face and something positive to say. Don’t we need more of those people in the world? Well, I found out last year he was diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma Cancer. It broke my heart. Last August he came to Houston for a fundraiser and to play music with his Houston friends for the last time. I got my friend, Vicki Hughes, to drive down with me and we attended that concert. I knew it would be my last time to see Billy. I had to hug him and love on him and his wife and just tell them how much they mattered to so many people.
It’s with a sad heart that I let you know that Billy died March 11, 2015. His motto was “No Fear! All Faith!” He stayed the course until the very end. His wife said he saw angels in his room and said, “I know where I am going.” I wanted to post a photo that Vicki took of Billy and I from last August. I know it’s blurry but I hope you can see all the love and good wishes in there. He followed my cancer journey in 2013 and always encouraged me and spoke life to me.
He was a great husband, father of two teenage boys, drummer, concert promoter and radio DJ. They nicknamed him ‘Mr. Nashville’ years ago and he was the best ambassador for the city. If you would, take a moment to pray for his wife Jill and sons Rocky and Grady. Billy was larger than life and will leave an irreplaceable space in their hearts, and in everyone’s that knew him.
