Peace family, what are the songs that have really brought you closer to God in meaningful ways?
Today, I had a listener call in to request “Jesus Freak” by dcTalk. It’s an old song, but it makes me smile every time I hear it, because I remember how God used dcTalk to draw me closer to himself when I was very young and not always very sure about whether or not I believed in God. It’s funny how we can hear a song ten, twenty, or even forty years later, and it takes us back to how we were in the moment when that song first made an impact on us.
Some of the other songs that do that for me are “Galapagos,” by Audio Adrenaline, “Joy” by David Crowder, and “Strong Tower” by Kutless. Whenever I hear these songs, they take me back to God’s faithfulness during specific times in my life, whether they were times of more deeply understanding his love for me, or experiencing God in a deeper way as I worked through long-rooted pain, or times of turning to God for comfort and protection, and trusting him through difficulties.
If there were a soundtrack to the ways that God has changed your life over the years, what would be on your playlist? If you haven’t visited any of your old favorites lately, why not take some time this week to listen to them, remember the beautiful things that God has done in your life, and thank him? Nothing builds my faith and helps me to trust God in the present like remembering what God has done in the past. The ancient Israelites often remembered God’s faithfulness by putting up rocks when and where He provided miracles, so… Rock On, Peace Family! 😉
