Peace family, does your life ever feel disjointed, disconnected, and random? If so, I just want to reassure you that God has a plan for you, and is working the pieces together in order to make something beautiful!
As you might already know, I have made a few quilts, and I am working on one very special quilt right now. last weekend, my friend Marjorie and I went to a quilt show in Plantersville, where we saw a ridiculous number of quilts. Meanwhile, my mom is currently beginning a quilt made from some of her mother’s outfits. I have quilting on the brain! It occurred to me this morning how our lives are like quilts.
Part of what makes quilts so special, is the thought that goes into them. You collect just the right fabrics, you design a specific pattern, and you snip and stitch, and sometimes the work is very hard! The quilt I am making right now, has all kinds of seemingly random fabrics, but I assure you, there is definitely a specific theme. Someone walking into my house and looking at the pieces I have laid out as I plan, might not understand the full picture. I actually have a friend who makes gorgeous, magazine-quality quilts, and when she saw some of the fabric I had chosen, she said, “I don’t know about this choice.” However, what she didn’t know was the plan that I have behind the design, and the image in my head of the finished, perfect quilt, which is going to be comforting, colorful, cozy, symbolic, and beautiful, an heirloom worthy of cherishing.
Peace family, God is at work in your life right now. He is snipping and stitching, and working all of the crazy colors and shapes that make up your life into a beautiful design, which in the end, will reflect his handiwork. It doesn’t matter if other people (or even you, yourself) can’t visualize his finished, perfect product. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, God works everything together for the good of those who love him, and he is a God of redemption and beauty beyond compare.
So, if you are feeling like your life is just thrown together, don’t lose heart! Hang in there, let go of trying so hard to make things go your way, and let God have his way in your life. Trust that he is making something beautiful! Your life is more beautiful than any quilt!
