Peace family, where do you find your peace? Is there anything we can do to preserve our peace?
Every so often, I allow myself to become discouraged not only by the evil things in the world, but also by the ways that people react to them. I get discouraged by the ways that people treat each other, and the ways that they treat me. I get discouraged by what others demand and expect of me in these situations, and how I am told to react. I struggle with people-pleasing, and I feel terrible when people (and even friends) ask things of me that I feel are at odds with what God is asking of me. Sometimes, I need a break to reassess my loyalty, what really matters, and who I really owe my allegiance to!
Jesus tells us that in this world, we will have trouble, but take heart! He has overcome the world.
Peace family, we have to seek Jesus for our comfort, for our identity, and for the truth. We have to listen to him and not to the voices of the world, sometimes even people (including other Christians) whom we love. We have to remember that this world is not our home, and God really will bring peace, goodness, truth and victory in the end.
If it’s too much to bear right now, take a break. A friend and I are meeting later today for a special afternoon of praise music, prayer, and just reading our Bibles, away from distractions. We need it! Jesus is the Bread of Life and the Living Water; if you feel like you are starving to death, it’s time to press in and focus on him.
Let’s spend this weekend regrouping and remembering our identities in Christ. Meet with friends, have quiet times with a friend or spouse, and even invite your kids to join in. Feed yourself from the word, and teach your kids that we can trust in God when times are tough. My prayer for you, Peace family, is that you would be encouraged and find deeper fulfillment and rest in Christ, today!
