Peace family, did you know that house plants need one another? It sounds funny, but it’s true.
Last week, I bought an orchid that had root damage from being over-watered. Very carefully, I repotted it in some new, better soil, and am misting it with water every day or so. I’ve moved it to a slightly darker part of my greenhouse until it can adjust to the stress of being re-potted. Do you know what else I am doing? It is a very small, mini orchid, and I set its pot down inside of a larger base, then stuffed several other small orchids around it. When house plants have neighbors growing beside them, they share respiration and humidity, and vulnerable plants, such as very young ones or plants that have been damaged, can really benefit from having other plants beside them.
Isn’t it interesting that houseplants do better when they are in community? If even house plants need each other, is it any wonder that people benefit from having close fellowship with one another?
Peace family, do you have a network of friends whom you can really trust? If not, today is the day to start reaching out to others! Everyone has something about them to love, including you! No one is perfect, but we can grow so much more quickly when we are in community with others, encouraging them and being encouraged ourselves.
Pray and ask God if there is anyone in your life who He wants you to become a special friend or mentor to this year. Look around you and see whom you can encourage, and who is living a godly life style that you would like to learn from. Don’t be afraid to ask someone if they would be interested in mentoring you for a while, and find friends who can walk beside you and keep you accountable. Make an effort to be dependable, trustworthy, honest, open, and a good listener yourself. Relationships are messy, but they are worth it.
Peace family, my prayer for you today is that you would find healing and growth through sharing your life with safe friends. Just remember my houseplants, and be the friend to others that you are looking for yourself!
