Peace family, there’s nothing quite like the tender crunch of hot popcorn, seasoned just to your liking, as you watch a movie! How about a way to make popcorn that’s easier than cooking it in a pot, and healthier than prepackaged popcorn?
I was watching a TV show with a friend last night, and caused a lot of surprise when I made popcorn this way. All you need is a brown paper lunch bag, a sturdy plate, some oil (I use olive oil or coconut oil- something about temperature points means that butter doesn’t work as well), and popcorn!
First, open up a brown paper bag and set it on a sturdy plate. For 1-2 people, put about three tablespoons of popcorn kernels (Jolly Time brand is consistently good), plus 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of oil inside. Fold the top of the bag down several times, so that it will fit into the microwave, but be able to unroll itself a little bit as the bag plumps up with popped kernels. As the oil heats, some will leak through the bag, so it’s important to put the bag on a sturdy plate (probably not plastic or paper), so that your microwave doesn’t get covered in oil. Finally, set your microwave to about four minutes, and wait! Keep an eye on it, because microwave time will vary according to how much oil and kernels you use. When the pops slow down to about a second apart, it’s ready! Pull that baby out and shake on the salt (or whatever flavoring you like) while it’s still steaming, so that it sticks. Now it’s crunch time! 🙂
I’ve been eating popcorn made this way for a year or two now, and I prefer the taste over prepackaged popcorn, plus I like knowing exactly what went into the popcorn, and I like making exactly the right amount for me! It’s fresh, delicious and just about as easy as prepackaged popcorn.
Happy Popping!
