Peace family, when was the last time that you had the chance to really think through all that God has brought you through?
Over the weekend, I was reminded of how far God has brought me. A friend and I went to see the Newsboys, and it was amazing! The Newsboys and dcTalk were my two favorite bands when I was in middle school, and now, one of dcTalk’s members, Michael Tait, is the lead vocalist for the Newsboys, so it was an opportunity to see people from both bands. The last time that I saw the Newsboys in concert, was almost twenty years ago, when I was in middle school, and middle school was a pretty terrible time in my life. There were a lot of unhealthy things in my life, I felt extremely alone, I was really struggling with God, and I considered killing myself. However, the music written by the Newsboys and dcTalk encouraged me through that time, they were a positive influence, and they helped to soften my heart and point me to Christ when so many other things were pointing me away from him.
I was expecting a peppy, rocky concert, but when I saw the Newsboys up on stage, I wept, thinking about how different my life is now than it was twenty years ago. God has been so good to me! He has brought me through those painful experiences, that deep feeling of being trapped and alone, and put me into his family. He has been good to the Newsboys as well; it made my heart so glad to see how God has provided for them, and how they are still doing their ministry through music. Not only that, but God encouraged me through many of the things that Michael Tait said, and ways that the Newsboys encouraged the audience in between their songs.
Peace family, even when our lives are hard, God is always good. What has he brought you through in the last year, the last ten years, or the last twenty years? As we prepare our hearts to celebrate Thanksgiving, be encouraged! Let’s think not only about the ways that he has provided in the present, but how he has rescued us and brought us through our pasts. We can trust a God like Him with our futures!
