Peace family, no matter how things look over all in our lives, let’s both just take a moment to focus on the small, simple good things.
I mean it! Take a deep breath. No matter how silly you feel admitting it, what is something small that you enjoy about being alive?
Yesterday, I was struck by the fact that even the simplest joys are joys nonetheless. Even if the things we take time to appreciate are small, they still count! What’s more, the things we give our focus to can color our other experiences, so why not focus on the good?
It doesn’t matter if what you love means nothing to someone else. For example, right now, I am enjoying a hot cup of Earl Grey tea, listening to the rain outside, and smelling macaroni and cheese baking in the oven (for the moment, I am overlooking the dirty dishes in the sink). Those are pretty silly things to make a big deal about- or are they?
I am so thankful for the rain, which is greatly appreciated after years of praying that Texas could get out of drought. I’m thankful that God let some nineteenth-century explorer named Earl Grey either invent or be gifted with a specific leaf and herb combination to design the tea that I love so much! I’m thankful that God provided for the farmers who grew the wheat that was made into macaroni. I’m thankful for the well-fed cows that made the milk, and the enzymes in Cheddar, England, that through some happy serendipity hundreds of years ago, developed the cheesy flavor that I love. I also am thankful that I have dishes, even if they are dirty!
Your little blessings might be bigger and more intricately involved in the hands of God than it looks like on the surface. No matter what else is going on, God is still good, and he is worthy of our gratitude in so many things.
Anyway, just a few thoughts from your friendly, neighborhood Kat.
