Peace family, today I just want to focus on the mercies of God, how he brings good things into our lives, even when we don’t deserve them!
I was given some hyacinths last year, and after they finished blooming, I didn’t take particularly good care of them. Actually, I took pretty bad care of them, if we’re honest! I forgot to water them, and they stayed, all dried out, in a hot greenhouse all summer. I thought about trying to plant them in the yard, but a friend who is very skilled with plants told me not to worry about it, that they aren’t meant for our climate and that they would fail to bloom even if I were to put them in the ground.
I still felt sorry for them, though, so as I moved my house plants into the greenhouse for the summer, I began to water their pots whenever I watered my other plants. What a surprise over New Year’s weekend, to find that they not only were sprouting, but they also are blooming! My greenhouse is filled with their sweet smell, and the pink blooms are beautiful.
Peace family, isn’t God always taking things that we didn’t expect to work out well, and turning them into good things? And even though sometimes we fail to take care of business in ways that we should, isn’t God merciful to us? Even if they are simple, there are some good things in your life that you can look at today, to be filled with gratitude for a merciful God who takes care of things. Surely we can trust him with our hearts and minds.
