Peace family, I want to encourage you to speak blessings over those around you today!
Over the weekend, I went out of town to a Shabbat (Sabbath) dinner with some ethnically Jewish friends who are believers in Jesus, and the experience was very moving. It’s basically a family dinner that incorporates certain prayers, traditions, thankfulness, and remembrance, and it ushers in the Jewish day of rest (which they celebrate on Saturday) by focusing on God and the family. One of my favorite parts of the meal, was when the wives and husbands (I was with two couples) took turns praying blessings over each other, then prayed blessings over their children and grandchildren, and finally, they prayed a blessing over me, the guest!
My hostess (the mother of my friend) talked about how much the weekly blessings had meant to my friend: so much, that while she was away in college, she had called her parents each Friday night, asking them to bless her. My friend is still walking with Christ, and is now a successful OB/GYN, she has a brand new, healthy baby, and a loving husband who is also a successful doctor. We talked about what a powerful statement of identity and encouragement it is, to be intentionally blessed in Jesus’ name on a weekly basis. It made me want to be more vigilant to bless those I love.
Peace family, who can you bless today? Who needs to know today that they are God’s beloved child ? Who needs to hear that they are more than a conqueror through Christ, who loves them? Don’t wait; speak identity over your loved ones, today! You never know what a difference it might make.
