Peace family, what small touches make Christmas special at your house? What are some small touches you can do to bring back some sparkle to your own or your loved ones’ Christmases?
I grew up with a CD of Christmas music that my family listened to every year. It began with “Ding Dong Merrily on High,” and that was the song we played on Christmas morning to cue the beginning of festivities. Unfortunately, years ago, someone in my family took the CD to school for some special event, and lost it. I remember being very upset, and every year, I would miss those songs. One of my brothers even made a sort of copycat CD, but it wasn’t the same, and it only had some of the same songs.
Brian and I talked about the missing CD and named some of the songs on the Peace 107 morning show, and to my surprise, a listener sent an email saying that she believed the CD we were looking for was the 1987 Time Life Treasury of Christmas. Brian and I found it on Amazon, and she was right! I ordered it, and after more than a decade, I am so excited to be reunited with that CD! I am so thankful!
Peace family, it was such a small thing, but that listener taking the time to write and tell us a solution really touched me. It makes me want to keep my eyes open for ways that I can help others with special Christmas touches.
What small touches make Christmas special at your house? Is there anything special you’ve been too busy to do or find or fix the last couple of years, even though it’s something important to you? Maybe you’ve always wanted a nativity but never bought one, or it’s time to glue a broken advent calendar back together, or you need to call someone you haven’t talked to in a while. On the other hand, do you know anyone who is longing for some specific, small thing, and you can help them to achieve it this year? Maybe someone you know could use a small ornament to commemorate your friendship, or needs help putting up their tree and decorations. Maybe your spouse had a toy he always wanted as a child, but never received. Maybe someone who lost a loved one could use a bouquet, or just someone to sit with them quietly by the fire and sip cider. Pray about it, and think creatively! There are still several weeks until Christmas. Let’s look for those special touches, and love others well this month!
