Peace family, Happy March!
It’s a fresh, new month, and spring is on the way! How are your resolutions going? What are the areas where you need breakthrough, or need to realign your focus on Christ?
Some friends and I are going camping this weekend, and we’re hoping to have some great quiet times out in the wilderness near San Antonio. We’re taking our hiking shoes, tent and rain gear, Bibles, journals, a guitar and harmonica, and some simple things to eat, plus some art supplies. Why not join us in the spirit, either this weekend, or next weekend? You don’t need to get off to some far-away nature preserve in order to meet with God!
Look around you; how is God’s presence evident in your life, right where you are? Make a list, and thank him for each way! What are your favorite natural areas around town, such as a park, or even a scenic area on campus? When I was in college, one of my favorite places to get away and meet with God was under a bridge by a small bayou. I would read under there, pray out loud, and sing praises to God. Another place I loved was a specific tree that I could climb. I love places like those. I also love looking at his creation in city gardens, in woods, or even small yards by libraries.
Your friendship with God is a beautiful thing, and a lot of the time, as grown-ups, we don’t get the camping opportunities that we had in our youth. It might take a little extra effort and thought, but it’s worth setting some time aside to get away from our society’s continual striving, especially while the weather is so nice.
If you have the chance, give over some of your time to restfulness this weekend. Turn off your phone, your television, and Facebook, and do something with the time that you would have spent looking at them. Find a quiet place where you can think; if necessary, swap babysitting with friends, so that you each get several hours to yourself. Be still, and know that God is God, and let him wash over your mind and your heart. Read over the scriptures, and meditate on God’s love for you. meditate on what God has done for you, what he has rescued you from, and how good he is. His love is deep, beyond all measure! May you be filled with his love and reassurance this weekend, and refreshed as we depart from winter and enter into spring!
