Peace family, our God is a God of redemption, and no matter what hard things have happened this year, God is always at work.
Many of my friends keep posting on Facebook about what a horrible year 2016 has been. I disagree. I think there were many extra hard things, and also many extra good things. In fact, I want to spread a challenge to thank God for every good thing this year! If we are in the habit of looking at the bad things, we will have a difficult time focusing on the good things, even if the calendar year changes by one number.
Let’s you and me both take some time this week, and think through all of the ways that we’ve been personally blessed this year. Think through the victories you have had, what God has taught you or how he has comforted you as you’ve gone through hardship. Think of the surprising ways that God has used other people to encourage you and to provide for your needs, or even to just bless you. What new things have you experienced this year, that brought true joy or pleasure? What are some areas of your life where you have learned how to trust God more? Whether we see it yet or not, God has worked throughout 2016, and he continues to work. Let’s thank him for every good thing, neither despairing, nor discounting any of the blessings that he has given us.
Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things,” and that’s good advice to live by!
