Peace family, do you know what a difference loving well through the church can make?
I was reminded over the weekend of the generosity and love of the church around the world. My grandmother died in North Carolina last week, and I was very touched by the way that her church body loved her and my family so well. I was filled with thankfulness, and it made me want to be more aware of the ways that I can love people around me!
It doesn’t mean that we have to do crazy, big things for people in order to make a big difference. My grandmother had not been able to attend her church, Calvary Baptist Church in King, for quite a while because of her health before she died. Even so, they would regularly visit her, and they remembered her and delivered food to our family when we arrived at her house to prepare for the funeral and begin cleaning things out. They also supplied all of the food and a place for our family to eat and meet after the funeral. These were such small, practical things, and yet they meant so much to my grieving family, many of whom did not still live in North Carolina and would have had a very difficult time trying to plan or organize those details.
Peace family, who can you love well today? Who can you support through your church? Who can you reach out to in your community, or at your church?
If God is highlighting a dream in your heart for a group of people or a specific way that you can serve, get equipped and go for it! There are people all around us with different kinds of needs, and we don’t always notice those people, but it means so much when we do. We are God’s hands and feet, equipped to bless others and serve well, so let’s do it! I know how grateful I am for the church family at Calvary Baptist. We will always have a better memory of my grandmother’s “Home Going” service, because of their care and thoughtfulness.
