Peace family, when the news is bad, we can get discouraged. When we hear about another terrorist attack, it can make our hearts feel sick. When we see right being called wrong, and wrong being called right, we can feel like giving up on it all!
While we have to face the same old day-to-day evils that people have dealt with for thousands of years, in this generation, we have a higher exposure to evil and suffering around the world than ever before. This includes being more aware of the suffering of Christians across the world than we were in the past. This can be overwhelming. We even have people who treat us like we are part of the problem if we don’t seem adequately moved or grieved, or don’t react in the way that they feel would be most beneficial to the suffering.
Peace family, we all get weary of the ways of the world every once in a while, but we can’t allow it to crush us.
Where in the Bible did God say to dwell on the evil in the world and despair?
He didn’t! Jesus said that in this world, we will have trouble, but take heart! He has overcome the world! (See John 16:33.)
We also need to remember, if God is for us, what can humans do against us? (See Romans 8:31.)
We know that be can be content in all circumstances, because of Christ giving us strength. (See Philippians 4:13.) We also know that we can give thanks to God for who he is despite and in all circumstances. (See I Thessalonians 5:18 and Philippians 4:6.)
We have to remember that God is powerful. He is in control. He will win in the end. He will be glorified, so we do not need to despair. We need to just trust in him and lean into him. We can focus on his goodness and thank him for all of the good things in our lives. We also can keep praying for all of the persecuted saints across the world.
Peace family, we need to remember that we are living for Christ. We are doing it for him, not anyone else. Let’s embrace the peace that we can find in him, today.
