Peace family, what feeds your soul?
A good friend asked that recently, and it got me thinking about different ways that different people are encouraged. A lot of friends responded with all kinds of answers, from the deep and spiritual to the comfortable and simple: reading the Bible, Jesus, enjoying a good piece of cake, focusing on all of your senses in a special moment, listening to others’ testimonies, going jogging, visiting the ocean or mountains, even just celebrating what’s seasonal! I also really find life in learning new things, such as instruments, recipes, or languages, and creating things, whether through art, music, writing, or cooking, particularly serving meals to friends.
Everyone has certain ways that God designed their soul to be uplifted and encouraged! What makes you feel alive? When do you, as Eric Liddell put it, “feel God’s pleasure”?
Also important to ask: when was the last time that you did one of those things that feed your soul? If it’s been a while, let me encourage you today to take some time and do one! Pull out those old ice skates and head to the rink. Snatch up a coloring book and color while listening to praise music. Schedule some alone time, or schedule a get together with friends, whichever you need. Roll up your sleeves and work in the garden, or on a classic car. Go to a coffee shop and really soak it in, or go fishing and bask in the fresh air and sunshine! Listen to testimonies, like this Jewish man Rich Freeman’s, here: https://www.ifoundshalom.com/video/rich-freeman. Invite your best friend and play a simple basketball game like you did with your friends growing up.
God designed us all so uniquely and so beautifully, that there are limitless ways that God has provided for us to feed our souls. Let’s enjoy these lives he has given us, and praise him. Embrace joy, and let his love pour over you today.
