Peace family, where does your encouragement come from?
These are some pretty stressful times, especially in the political and social aspects of the world all around us, but sometimes it can be easy to find encouragement in places that were never meant to fill that need. What are your favorite ways to find comfort and encouragement?
We can look for comfort in all kinds of things. I tend to look for it in sweets, distract myself with books, or try to make everything in my house clean. Some people use tv shows or movies to escape from life, other people play games on their phones or computers, and other people like to shop. My mom has been frustrated with all of the negativity on Facebook lately, and she told me that the other day, she was looking over that website, feeling more and more discouraged. She prayed, “God, would you please let something encouraging and fun just pop up?” She felt like God said, “Why are you looking for encouragement from Facebook?” She immediately felt convicted. We should be trying to find our encouragement from God!
My mom shared that experience with me, and it has made me think twice about the ways I try to comfort myself. I want to be seeking my encouragement from God! When I feel anxious about a situation, I want to pray. When I don’t know what to do, I want to pray. When I feel frustrated, or confused, or afraid, I want to pray, even if I don’t immediately feel relieved. Meanwhile, I want to memorize the truths of the Bible, so that God’s words will be in my head and heart when I need them!
Peace family, our God hears us. He knows the cry of your heart, and he knows the best ways to comfort his children. Trust in him, and let him and his word be your primary source of encouragement, today!
