In Matthew 10:29-31, Jesus said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Some days we feel like we just can’t go on. Life pulls us down, we make mistakes, people need more than we have and tasks get undone. We end up feeling defeated, exhausted and often feel worthless. And then… that’s the enemy’s favorite time to slide up close and whisper more lies, “You’re just not enough.”
If you’ve listened to Peace 107 for any length of time, you’ve likely heard the song by Tenth Avenue North, “You are More”. My favorite words in that song are:
But don’t you know who you are,
What’s been done for you?
Yeah, don’t you know who you are?
You are more than the choices that you’ve made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You’ve been remade.
Jesus knew we’d feel defeated and feel worthless. That’s why he spoke those words in Matthew. He left us many reminders of His love and care AND regarding our worth in His eyes.
Ephesians 2:4-9, But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
2 Corinthians 5:17, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
1 Peter 2:9, But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
1 John 3:1, See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
There are hundreds of other passages to show us He thinks we are worthy of His love, His time and the life of His Son.
One of my favorite writers, Sharon Jaynes, wrote recently,
“You are worth more than the money in your bank account.
You are worth more than the number of friends you have on Facebook.
You are worth more than the number of followers for your Twitter account.
You are worth more than the number of meetings and appointments on your calendar.
You are worth more than your successes or failures.
You are worth more than your level of education.
You are worth more than the price tags in your closet.
You are worth more than your accomplishments or lack of them.
You are worth more than many sparrows.”
God made you to be you on purpose, for a purpose. Believe it, my friend!!
Psalms 139:13-16,
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
